11/20/00 The Insane Shrimp Posse from Orange City Dominated the Jumbos at Haulover Canal last night to the tune of 1.5 Gallons. We were the only boat out there, which was a relief considering our less than graceful launch at the Haulover ramp that included the normal Posse mishaps including no plug in boat, Boat still strapped to trailer, and an new one involving one of the bunks falling off. We rigged Clammy's skiff with 900 watts of halogen lights and a new Honda 1000 watt generator (legitimate business expense) and headed out at dark. We learned that carbon monoxide greatly reduces the amount of alcohol you need to consume to become drunk. The highlight of the trip was at 9pm when clammy fired up his 5" TV to watch Roswell and tripped the breaker on the generator. About 9:30 the generator started to run out of gas, and Clammy put boat gas (mixed with oil) in it and it started to smoke like crazy. You could not see a foot in front of your face and the bridge tender at Haulover called the Coast Guard because he thought we were on fire. Luckily the Coast Guard guys were big fans of Roswell and helped us position the generator down wind so they could watch the last 10 minutes. Once again another Insane Shrimp Posse success story, nobody got hurt or arrested.
Nice shrimp were running Nov 22 and 23 in the Miami area. Got 10 Pounds on 22 and 6 pounds on 23. Run was short at height of outgoing tide and shrimp were large. Had lots of fun at a small bridge with underwater lights. Wing netters were out with their boats and seemed to do well. Don
Went shrimping on Friday nite 11/24. Went to HC from 6 till about 11, caught a grand total of 7 shrimp, pulled out and went to Oakhill, luckily passing through a police checkpoint on US 1, north of Titsville. They were dipping for drunks like I was dipping for shrimp. Anyway, Oakhill sucked too. Ended up with 65 shrimp and I figure if ya can count them you had a crappy nite.I sure thought that the high south winds would have been pushing them out of the Lagoon, but once again the shrimp made a fool of me.Maybe it was the temp change that put them down. On Thursday AM when I left the ramp at dawn it was 38 and I had a good nite. On Saturday AM when I pulled out it was 68, a differrence of 30 degrees.Coolest thing about the nite was that I had a nearly legal grey grouper come drifting by my light just like a shrimp. I almost netted it but figured that it would be a pretty good way to end up buying a new net. Brad
11/24 caught one shrimp at oakhill and 0 at haulover no shrimp around to be found. Just one of those nights. Jethro
11/25/00 Saw 13 medium shrimp at Sebastian. Rick (BTYO)
New moon 11/25 No shrimp at haulover. No fish at Port canaveral.
11/30/00 The Insane Shrimp Posse from Orange City had there asses slapped and were called Sally by all but 30 shrimp at Oak Hill last night. We arrived at dark and by 9:00 PM we new this was not going to be a good night for shrimping. There was a shuttle launch scheduled for 10 PM, so we decided to see how close to the launch pad we could get without getting arrested. Luckily we had a new Posse member with us who does not have a name yet, He acts very much like Clammy, and has a beard, so for this story I will call him Bearded Clammy. Bearded Clammy has never missed an episode of The A Team or McGuiver and assured us he could get passed all the security at NASA and get us within 100 yds of Launch Pad 39b. What happened next you may find hard to believe. Bearded Clammy used duct tape to tape cold beers all around the engine block to make us invisible to all the infrared sensors used by the security people at NASA. Then he crushed about 15 moon pies and started throwing them in the air to attract a flock of migratory birds. These birds liked the moon pies so much they surrounded the boat and the security people just thought we were a flock of birds. At 10 PM sharp we beached about 100 yds from the launch pad just in time to see some guy come out, light the fuse and run like hell. The light was so bright we were blinded, and the heat was so intense it singed Bearded Clammy's beard. Before the shuttle left the pad we noticed all the birds started heading for the light. Singed Clammy yelled "Don't Go Into The Light !!" But it was too late. These birds were so hopped up on sugar that they all headed straight for the fireball. What happened next will be burned into my memory forever. As the birds got closer to the fire ball, their wings caught on fire, The sky was filled with flaming birds, and when all the feathers were finally burned off it started raining flaming bird carcasses. They were falling all around us, hitting the water with a splat, then a sizzle. We gathered as many as we could to eat on the way home because we were out of Moon Pies. Another Insane Shrimp Posse success. Nobody got hurt, and nobody got arrested. The Shrimp Slayer
12/1/00 I went to HC and caught about 450 jumbos using a blue net. They ran really late and i think i could have done better with a different net. Dave
Went to Oak Hill on Saturday nite(12/2/00). Nice nite, no wind, mild temps. Met Lucky who was nice enough to show me some real good looking spots in the backcountry. Dipped about 3/4 gallon of mixed sizes and went to the main river where we didn't do diddly. Was real glad Lucky showed up cause even after he had described to me on the map where to go, I missed it by about 100 yards. Brad
12/2/00 Went to Oakhill.
Caught a gallon, missed a gallon. Put my boxnet in the truck bed to keep from
needing it but it didnt work. Guess I'll have to actually put it in the boat
next time. Slack tides and drifting seemed the most productive. At low slack
they popped up everywhere around us like it was the BIG one, but only lasted a
minute. Great to be out there. The shrimp dinner is a bonus. Saltycracker
12/7 Went to oak hill and caught a gallon of medium to small. Tide flowed north at 10pm left at 130am. Jethro Went to Oak Hill
12/8 Saltycracker and I went to Oak Hill caught 1/2 gallon large between midnight and 3. Dave
Went to Oak Hill on Friday nite(12/8/00).Wind was lite out of East and temps were mild. Got 3 gallons with two people dipping and stayed most of the tide.
December 9, 2000 caught
1 - 1 1/2 gallons of large+ at Oak Hill from 1:00 'til almost dawn. Wind was
calm, moon almost full and water was filthy...
I went to my Honey Hole in Oak Hill, with my friend Brian, for the first time in years for a trial run and limited out in 3 hours once the tide started going out.(12/9,med-jumbos,10:30-1:30) He now has Shrimp fever becuz he's never caught so many shrimp and was wooped by nights end. It didn't come with out a price to the SHRIMP GODS! When I pulled the trailer out after lauching the boat I got a flat. When we motored up to head back to the dock, the anchor rope sliped out my hand and I lost it along with a 100' foot of rope. Still more to come..... after puttin for EVER down the chanel and changing my flat, I backed the trailer in the water. Thats when I noticed one of my trailer rails was completely broke off. So we had to limp it all the way back to Palm Bay. We had so much fun went back Sat. night and got our limit again aboard the FENDER BENDER! The only sacrafice that night was 1 broken shrimp light and luckily it broke pulling it out of the water to go home. XtrmDivr (John)
12/11 Went to HC and dipped a dozen large to jumbo shrimp early evening Brad caught 10 to my 2. Wind from the south @ 10 mph in the 70s. Watched a raccoon in heat cornered on the edge of a limb while three males were checking her out. She told them to get lost that she had a headache. Lots of small redfish and trout but no biters. Didn't see another shrimp after 8pm but stayed till 1130. Jethro
I went to Oak Hill 12/15 caught 1 gallon large from 6:30 to 11 went to haulover and didn't get squat. The shrimp were running deep a box net would be advised Dave
12/16 and met Lee at the Riverbreeze ramp and we both dipped enough to cover the bottom of our buckets. Jethro

Missed most as they were skittish and popping up right at the boat. Our prayers were finally answered and the wind changed.......to out of the NORTH at 28.(yes, God, I'll try to be more specific next time) Robert
