01/07/03 6p-11p, Riverbreeze, 40 deg/calm, 2 1/2 gallons, Hit the water with the new boat and those funky green lights about 6pm. Wind died completely after dark and stayed calm most the night. Water was a little murky and we found shrimp in about 10 feet of water. They were running pretty deep. Dipped 2 gal and gpt 1/2 gal in the boxnet even though we set it deep. Dirty Howie

1/8/03 7:00p.m. Riverbreeze, wind W. @ 10mph, 50 deg. 1 1/2 gallons, Got setup at 7:00p.m. and shrimp started right on cue. wind came up out of the west and made it tough to get the deep ones. Ended up with 1 1/2 gallons of average Oak Hill shrimp. About 2 doz. Jumbo's mixed in. Packed up about 10:15p.m.Mike

7:30 01/08/03, river breeze, mild wind murkey water, 2 1/2 gallons, went out of river breeze put in at 7:30 stayed till 12:00 got only 2 1/2 gals. all med to large. meat

01/09/03, Riverbreeze marker 71, clear, 60F, west wind <10, clear water, What???Boy what a difference a day makes. Went to Riverbreeze after glowing reports above and set up at dusk. We were excited as 20+ boats also arrived. Noone in sight was dipping. Stayed until 9:30 and only got one stinking shrimp in the box net. Felt sorry for the poor critter and let it go. Tim

1-9-03 7:00-12:00, RR Bridge, half a dozen, ahhh! man was tonight frustrating. less than half a dozen and spent 5 hours searching! cutters

1/9, Riverbreeze, Light nw wind @ 57 deg. 13 shrimp, Put in at 9:00 and stayed until 11:00 PM. The parking lot was full when we got there, lot's of boats on the water but didn't see a lot of dipping. Water started clear and then got cloudy. We were anchored on the west side of the channel across from Shrimpin.com's boat. Reidster

1/9 Riverbreeze, light wsw wind 56º water 60º air temps, 1/2 gallon maybe, The water was unusually clear with 10' vis. Me and JohnB stopped at HC first but the current about stopped after we hit the water so headed to OH. The shrimp were scarce and lots of small ones. We did manage to catch what you will call a few large shrimp but not in many #s. Jethro

1/9/03 Dark to 9:30, RR Bridge, zip, Slow current to the north. About 10 boats. Saw one shrimp netted. Shrimper

1/9, 6:30 until 10:00, RB, 60, light breeze, 1 gal, Set up at 6:30 & started seeing shrimp right away. Moderate but steady until about 8:00, then crazy for about 15 minutes, then nothing. About 2 dozen in the frame net, the rest dipping. Doug

1/10/03, Riverbreeze, 1st channel marker to the S, No wind, Calm 50-60s, GOOSE EGG - NOTHING, The outgoing tide was to start at 7:48 pm, we got there at 7. Before getting fully set up the Fishing Police came by. I did not have a bouy set up on my frame yet and the bastards gave me a ticket for $59. That sucks, but we still stayed to try for shrimp. The current was very weak that Friday night, and no wind from the South was not helping the situation. At 11 pm we saw our 1st unworthy shrimp, and did not grab it. At 11:30 we packed it up empty handed, except for the damn ticket. When loading the boat, the cable on my trailer wench snaped. Not a good night. Shuga Shrimp

1/10 8-12pm, Riverbreeze NW light wind@60 deg, 1 1/2 gal. Where did the shrimp go? I think we were some of the lucky ones to get 1 1/2 gallons. No one seemed to be having any luck. Frame net got us 2 dozen lousy shrimp...guess it is better than nothing. Near the end of the tide is where they were running the strongest! Dipping about 2 every minute. Very slow. Mostly med. and about a dozen large/jumbo. Went South about 1/2 mile of Riverbreeze! Trying again tonight! The Blooms

1/10/03, South River Breeze, fair, 3 Med/Lg gallons, Anchred up at tide change but no shrimp until about 10PM but then we coaxed them up from the deep. It was rapid dipping for 2 hrs and then went dead. We emptied our bulging sacks and left at 12Pm. Shrimp Daddy and Bird Man slayed' em once again. C-yall on the next tide. Shrimp Daddy

1/11/03, riverbreeze, wind N @ cold, 1/2 gallon, got there around 7:30 current started around 8:30, slow dipping, mixed bag of small to large, anchored just north of ramp, noticed most boats heading south of ramp, this is second time to shrimp riverbreeze, they must know something we didn't know, mmmmm, wish haulover or RR bridge would send reports, I love shrimping at haulover, last april was the bomb at HC. Gonna try the walls with traps at 528 bridge starting in Feb. Good luck to all Susan/Fishhead.

1/11/03, Riverbreeze, wind north and very chilly, 1 3/4 gallons, Setup just south of Lopez RV, near the Channel in 7-8 foot of water. No shrimp until the tide changed @ 8:30pm. Even mix of sm/med/lg with a dozen or so of jumbos. Slowed down just past midnight. Packed up soon after. manster

1/11 8:30-12:30, South of Riverbreeze, COLD!!! Light North Wind, 1 1/2 gal. First started at the first marker south of RiverBreeze and got nothing!!! Moved up about a 1/4 mile and the shrimp were running for 3 straight hours. Frame net did not have the plug in for 2 of those hours...got about 3 dozen. Shrimp were running so deep they were hard to get...but constantly running. Back lights started going out due to the battery use the night before and the shrimp were everywhere. Learned that too much light is not good. Shrimped off them for another hour. Should have limited...missed so many. Johnny Law was out again and skipped over our boat AGAIN! Only happens when you have all of your stuff in order. Handing out tickets to everyone else left and right. It was a fun night. Variety of med to large. About 2 dozen jumbos which came in droves at the end of the tide. The Blooms

01/14/03, Edgewater marker 50, perfectly clear,45F,calm wind, 3-5' vis. Wanted to go the Riverbreeze, but tide change was too late so we went to Edgewater. 4-5 other boats were there about 8pm when we set up. Heavy barge traffic and shrimp few and far between, although it looked more promising as the night wore on. The few we caught ran fast and deep. Total about 25 shrimp small/med. Tim

01/14/03 9pm - 12:30am, oak hill, wind nw, 0, froze my nads last nite outside lopez marina in oak hill and not a shrimp to show for it. tide didnt change til midnite and we split about 12:45 due to cold. hint: if you get bored waiting for shrimps DO NOT grab a couble of maiting horeshoe crabs in your shrimp net. scott

1/16/03 7:00p.m. Haulover Canal, wind SW @ 5-10mph, 60 deg. 62 shrimp, We anchored up east of the bridge. As soon as we had lights on we caught 10 shrimp right off the bat, then it slowed down to a crawl. We had a godd tide and decent water clarity. I expected much better. We also saw over 20 Mantis Shrimp. I haven't seen one of these in 20 years. Mike

Perfect tide, perfect moon, Perfect wind direction, a bit cool but nice, NOT ONE SHRIMP SIGHTED FOR FOUR HOURS!!!! A group of 3 comming out behind us at the ramp reported 1/2 gallon in the middle of the channel. Lots of white ghostly wads of stuff running out with the tide all night. Looks like star nebula from outer space. Anyone know what this stuff is?????? DAVE & RONNY

01/16/03 sunset to 11p, RR Bridge, light to moderate sw wind/bright moon, 14 shrimp, My friend Tim and I headed over to the RR bridge hoping the switch in the wind and the moon would get the shrimp moving. A lot of people had the same idea, the place was packed. Awesome night, except for the shrimping. Picked one here and one there and would have stayed a little longer except for the guys with the pontoon boat with generator buzzing and two monster lights blinding everyone. They began to perform some sort of ritual, which had something to do with anchoring, leaving the lights on the whole time. It was enough to make us leave and try the swing bridge with no success. Clay

1/22/03 6p-11p, Oak Hill, 55 deg Calm, 6 Dozen, Decided to give it a go before the freeze gets here. Hoped the last two mild days would have gotten the little buggers movin' but that wasnt the case. Feb. 6 sunset to 0100, RR Bridge, Mild, wind se switching to sw, 100 shrimp, Tim and I launched just after sunset. About a dozen boats were at the bridge. Nothing for awhile, then got into a slow pick of nice size shrimp. When the wind shifted and picked up, the shrimping just about shut down. Most of the boats left, we moved to the north side, but only picked up another couple before leaving. Clay

2/7 6-10pm, Riverbreeze, 55 deg. N 10-15 deg wind, 100 shrimp, Water was filled with seaweed for the first 1 1/2 hours. After that shrimp ran through slowly. Mostly large. Horrible shrimping weather...white caps and all! The Blooms

2/8 7-11, Riverbreeze, 56 deg. light north wind, 2 gallons, Much better night than last night. Weather was PERFECT! Shrimp ran during the tide steadly. Water was very clear. Everyone seemed to being doing well. NOt many people out for a Saturday! The Blooms

2/8/03 Sunset to 10:00 PM, East side across from Lighthouse Cove, Cloudy deminishing nw wind 57 deg, 1 quart, Setup before sunset, wind was blowing 10 -15 out of the Northwest but deminished after the sun went down. Water is still extremely low. Tried new light setup, still needs work but is getting better. There were more jelly fish than shrimp. Anyone have a good receipe for jelly fish? Reidster

feb 9, 2003 sunset until 10:30, oak hill, started cloudy, ended clear, no wind, just over 1 gallon, Almost didn't make the trip over because it was supposed to be nasty. Got there just at sunset. 2/14 11:30-5:30, RB south, SE 55deg, 1 gallon, The shrimp definatley ran in spurts. We had mostly large and jumbos. Speaking of frame nets, saw a guy driving around with his frame net with a loud smokey stinky motor all night long. Then decided to park 20 feet next to us for about 30 minutes until he decided to drive around with it some more. Listened to his motor all night long. What I cant figure is how he did not get that thing caught in his motor??? The Blooms

2/15/03, LeFil's, wind sw at 5-10, 1 gallon, Midnight to 5am. Is it true that when you report shrimp catches you always round up to the nearest gallon? 15-20 jumbo, lots of large -only six medium. And more crap in the water than I have seen lately... Lowe2

2/15/03 FRIDAY NIGHT/SAT AM, RIVERBREEZE, MID 50s LIGHT SW WIND, .012 GALLONS, Set up south of the first marker from RB on the channel edge. Tide changed around 11pm fri night. Nothing happening so we moved to the middle of the channel Got a dozen but missed 6 times that since they were deep and we have the cheap nets. None caught in the floating trap so you know they were not on top. Some did much better and some got 1-2 or none at all. Lots of boats out there. Lots of trash in the water. Seemed they were concentrated in the channel and running deep from others we talked to. DAVE & RICH

feb. 15-16, Haulover and Oak Hill, wins sw at 10, 60 degrees, a couple of dozen, Started at Haulover at dark. Conditions were great. Perfect wind, perfect current, NO shrimp! We picked a few jumbos here and there, but it should have been better! Moved up to Oak Hill around midnight with the same results. Good tide flowing, but not enough shrimp worth counting. Lots of red algae in the water at Oak Hill.
I think the water temperature is still too cold! Sea Ya! Junior

2\17; 7:00-10:30, Haulover Canal, Saw one shrimp. The wind was out of the west but the water was flowing into the river. Wtaer was dirty and not moving fast at all for Haulover. About 6 boats and nobody doing anything. One guy in a Ghenoe leaving when I did got 12 running up and down the canal. Are they ever going to show up? swashbuckler

2-17 / dark to 11:30, RR Bridge - Titusville, p. cloudy, west wind, coooool, Gallons? When? Another trip to the RR Bridge yeilded a ######## and a half of shrimp garnished with jelly fish - they were mostly big ass shrimp though. Something was on fire on the west shore early in the evening - smelled some other stuff burnin' too. Tried to catch some fish while waiting - they wouldn't cooperate either. Where the hell are all the shimps. Here shrimpy, shrimpy, shrimpy! Scott

2/18/03, rr bridgeand haulover, wind nw@20mph cool, 20 shrimp, tried rr bridge nw wind was howling.went to haul over wind did not allow current to flow the right way.managed to dip 20 shrimp from 9:30 till 1:00 big shimp just not many to be had. ack

Feb. 19&20, 406 Bridge - Titusville, no wind, 0, 3rd time same location this year, but still not seeing any shrimp running. What's going on? Is this place really dead? or time still not right? Anybody catch any good number of shrimp at this location so far this year? Let me know. Charley

2/20 dark til 8:30, North of Riverbreeze, cool, light wind from N/E, 3 gallons, Set up before dark, tide was already strong . Shrimp were running hard as soon as we could see them. Dipped 2 gallons and emptied 1 gallon from the boxnet. 8:00 tide was slack but shrimp still popped up and swirled from every direction for another 30 minutes. That was the first time I have ever seen 8 shrimp grouped together pretty tight.Shrimp were all med. and large with about 3 doz. jumbos. Another good trip out enjoying God's beautiful creation. William Dike

Feb. 20 1045PM, RR Bridge, Warm, winds calm, 0, Arrived at Parrish Park at about 1045PM, just in time to see my friend Tim pulling his boat out. Tim only had six shrimp and had been there since sunset. Water wasn't moving and no wind. Jerry and I decided to head out and hope that the predicted Se5-10 would start up. Never did, we ended up with only 4 shrimp and left around 0230. Clay

2/21 from 9pm - 1am, Riverbreeze, Rainy for the first hour then clear, 2 Gallons - Mostly Medium and Large, Arrived for the late tide change and as we pulled away from the dock the sky opened and the rain fell. Pulled my boat under the pier at Riverbreeze Park and waited it out on the water (now I know why no one is ever on that pier, it's only three inches deep underneath it). Got anchored up as everyone seemed to be leaving. I heard some guy mumble that he only got 10 shrimp. My father in law and I stayed out til midnight and were able to come up with two gallons of nice shrimp. Eric

Feb 21,2003, North of RiverBreeze, 1/2 or so, Sloooow. Took one of my daughters and Jim Carl and got maybe 1/2 gal of mostly meds I guess. Dipped between the rain and the lightning. I don't think anyone got much more than a gallon. Alot of the weird jelly fish that look like a mushroom clouds in the frame net (about 40 pounds of them). Usual River Zoo Friday night shrimping experience. Hopefully they will pick up. Anyone been to Haulover lately? Where are all the reports? JohnB

2/23/03 6:30 to 11;30, Riverbreeze, 53 degrees wind out of the n.e. at 5, 3.5 Gal. Great night wish I had my son with me we would have got 5 Gals. mostly med. & lrg. a few jumbos. Ginzo

2/24/03 8:30 to 1:30, Riverbreeze, water 68º air 58º calm, 4 gallons,  Went out with JohnB on Shrimpin.com. No sooner than we turned on the lights there was a half a dozen shrimp but weren't ready for that. We still have the frame net to deploy and unroll the dipnet. Started of like gang busters dipping left to right till we broke a sweat. They ran good for an hour but then slowed. Would have had 5 gallons if I would have secured the plug better on the framenet! Lost a volleyball sized bunch on the first draw of the net. It was a beautiful night and it will only get better till that front comes in around Thursday. Jethro

2/25, Riverbreeze, same temps and calm, 3.5 gallons, Went out solo to get the whole bag but didn't make the limit. Wasn't quite as active as lastnight but worht the trip. With all these folks that read my reports.. 600 hits a day and no reports?? For Those that do give your reports T/Y Jethro

2/25 - Dark until 2, south of RB, ne @ 8 - 60 degrees, almost 4, Tide started turning about 8:30. Dipped fairly steady for about an hour or so then tapered off - came in spurts until well after the tide picked up. We were about ready to leave at 1 (only had about 2 gallons) - had the engine running - they started coming through, as many as 8 at a time. Little bastards knew we were ready to leave - hard to do when they keep coming. Had someone beside us with some nice "billboard lights" - I guess we were the billboard - my eyes still hurt from their damn lights! Then they had the nerve to move up in front of us and put a box net out - man...some people! Ended up leaving at 2 with almost 4 gallons - mixed - not a lot of big ones but worth it. Scott

2/25/03, Norht of Riverbreeze, NE@ 5 - 60 degrees, 2.5, gallons, Dipped 2.5 gals. steady throughout the night in spurts.  Worth the trip. Kojak

2/25/03, oakhill, breezy and nice 60's to maybe 70, 2 or 2.5, Got to ramp at lefils at 7:00. Three hours before tide supposed to turn. Weather was very nice but windy. Set up early at 7:30 ish and already seeing a few nice size shrimp. I try some top water plug fishing which usually works well for trout at night out there but no takers.Wind was blowing hard from SE and it seemed to make the tide turn much earlier than scheduled. Shrimp ran steady but no real big runs all night for us. Only dipped more than one at a time about three times. Ran out of beer early so quit at 12:30 (before the best run probably) But were happy with our two or two and a half gallons of all nice size mediums and large with a few jumbos (no little salad shrimp this time). Ricker

2/25/03 8:30 PM until 11:30 PM, South of River Breeze, East Side, light ne breeze @ 68 deg. 1/5 qts. Dipped by myself.  Tried out new light system, worked great.  Shrimp were mixed some on top and some deep, missed a lot of deep ones.  Probably left too early, it's tough when you have to get up and go to work the next day. Reidster

Feb. 26  1030p till 0300,  Lefils, Nice night with variable south wind, 3 gallons, My friend Leo and I raced out of work to make the 1030p outgoing.  My favorite spots were taken, so we set up a few hundred yards south of 9A.  Steady pick, but no great run.  Mostly smalls and mediums, with only about a dozen large.  I missed the one jumbo that went past. Clay

2/26/03, 8:30 to 2:00, riverbreeze, little under 2 gallons, Tide was still coming in when we got there, dipped a couple dozen before it turned.  Then they came pretty steady for about 30 mins. After that, short spurts 1-2 dozen at a time.  Mostly small/med, couple dozen large and 2 jumbos. gatortrout

2/25 - 2/26,  North of RB, light to moderate wind, water pretty clean, 2.5 and 1, Shrimped Tues and Wed night.  They were slow but steady Tues, and wed very slow.  The wind Wed made it a little hard to see them, and we shrimped on the down wind side of the boat, and they would just pop up here and there. JohnB

2/26 / 0730 - 0200, South of Riverbreeze, WInds S - SW, 1.5, Expected a good night but all it was was a beautiful night.  Shrimp were slow and never really turned on.  Most were mediums.  Good night for some goood wings, a few cocktails, and tellin lies.  Waiting for the next full moon! kojak

2/26, Riverbreeze, Mid 60's 5-10, 3 1/2, Got set up about 10:15 and found the tide already starting to move. Wind made it interesting visibility-wise and the only trash in the water were the scads of jellyfish. Had so many in the box net that I kept getting my anchors pulled. Still, we went home happy. DIRTY HOWIE

Feb 27, Haulover/Lefils,  Warm, Changing wind, 11 shrimp/2gallons, My son and I put the boat in Haulover just before dark.  Set up a little east of the mouth of the river.  SW wind and slight flow west to east.  About a dozen medium shrimp before we headed to the bridge.  Wind was changing to the NW and the flow started to reverse.  Decided to head to Lefils. Wind had slacked and we were set up and dipping by 1115p.  Mostly small/medium, with about 6 large.  At 0245 the wind picked up out of the NE and it felt like the temp. dropped about 15 degrees.  Expecting rain, we pulled the boat and headed home. Clay

3/1 Riverbreeze, 68º calm, roughly 2 gallons, Took Sailcat from the FS forum out for some shrimping and was surprised to see the channel empty!  No commercial shrimpers and maybe a dozen boats out. Managed 2 gallons of shrimp to 10 gallons of cannonballs. It was a nice night out there. Jethro

3/2/03 11-3am, Couple miles S of RB, Beautiful night, light wind, mid 60s, Limit, We arrived at 11pm when the tide was just switching.  They took about an hour to start running.  They were everywhere we looked.  We keep dipping and dipping until we got our limit.  As we drove back to RB ramp people were still dipping furiously.  We have limited twice in the last week.  Our freezer is plenty full!  Happy Shrimping! The Bloom

3/2/03 10:30 to 1:00, Edgewater, nw wind @ 3m.p.h. the big 5, Boy what a beautiful night for shrimpin.  Was a little slow at first the fast and furious.  Also caught a couple of "mantis" shrimp and are wondering haluciagenic properties of them.  Has anyone ever eaten them and are they good???  Going out again tonight in the lovely rain and going to try to limit again. Brad and Tim

03/04/03, RB, Slight South to Southeast wind, 3 gallons, I went out at first dark about 6:45.  I had 17 Shrimp when it went slack at 8:00.  Decided to stay out through the change of tide.  Next thing I know it's like popcorn, couldn't get them all, stayed through 2 hours of the incoming tide.  Finally slowed about 10:00 and came in.  There was a Pontoon boat kept slipping anchor, damn near drifted into me about 6 times.  Funny thing though, every time they would fire up to move, I couldn't keep up with the shrimp.  Not a bad night. HP

03/04/03   0200hours, south of river breeze, clear wind no wind, 5, IT WAS A BUEATIFUL NIGHT WE CAME FOR THE LATE OUTGOING TIDE AT 0300 HOURS.  FIRST THOUGHT THAT WITH SUCH A LATE TIDE THAT I MIGHT OF BEEN PUSHING MY LUCK BUT AT 0330 THEY STARTED COMING THRU.. 5 GALLONS IN 1.5 HOURS WE WERE DONE AT 5AM.  QUITE AN EXPERIENCE.. 3/05/2003, Riverbreeze, 1and 1/2 gallons, Got to Riverbreeze well before dark.  Current was flowing great.  Got set up about 300 yards south of ramp in our favorite spot. Other shrimpers came later and showed great respect by not setting up right in front of us. The shrimp started running about 20 min. after dark real good.  Thought it was going to be a 5 gal. night.  Then they started comin' onesies and twosies.  We had to leave by 9:00  and the shrimp were still comin even though the tide had stopped by then.  Didn't have the box net out.  There weren't very many cannon balls.  I should have brought it.  All the shrimp were med to lrg. beaglebeal

3/6 7:45 till 2, RR Bridge - Titusville - & secret spot, great weather - not cold, not windy, 5 gallons - limit, Got to the RR bridge well after dark.  Hawkeye and I got set up and started dippin.  All mostly big shrimp came through pretty steady until 9:30 or 10 then slacked off to near nothin.  Moved to the secret spot and topped off the bucket by 2 (not such a secret if you are familiar with Titusville).  They seemed to be moving slow and deep - best night I've had in a long time but had to work for em. Dipped a good size squid - lots of little jelly fish. Didn't fall in. Scott

3/7/03  7-10, Titusville RRB, 75 deg wind s @5, 3.5 gallons, Right at dark they ran hot and heavy for about 30 minutes got 2 out of 3 gallons then. The rest of the night we dipped steadily and then left at 11. A very nice batch of JUMBOS and a few regs. The current was coming from the north and all of my shrimp came from the north and deep. Salts

3/7/03  Dark till 10:30p. Riverbreeze, 4 gal, On the water 1/2 hour before dark. They started slow but came steady for about an hour with some really good runs here and there. Made the trip from Melbourne despite the nasty weather forcasts. We did get rained on for about an hour or so but nothing too heavy...the lightning worried us some but fortunately it didnt get close enough to make us leave. Right at the end of the tide the shrimp started going off. We stayed till the beginning of the incoming tide and dipped non-stop till my back couldnt take it anymore. Would have got a limit but my brother from geargia was as clumsy as a new born pup. Great night..cant wait till saturday. Dirty Howie

3/7 dark until 8:00, RB, Rain, not much, Unlike Dirty Howie, I was frighened off by the lightening.  Something about being on the water with a 9 ft. metal pole in my hands...  Shrimped for only about 45 minutes & barely covered the bottom of the bucket. Doug

3/07/03, RB, rain wind out of the north, 3 gallons, Got to RB before dark and went north.  Shrimp came hard right after sunset. It was wierd.  My buddy Jim was so busy in the bow of the boat, that he rarly picked his net up.  Meanwhile back in the stern I was just dipping here and there.  By 7:15 we had 2 and 1/2 gal. Caught about 1/2 gal in the box net. Stayed until 8:45.  When the thunder boomers came in we left. Beaglebeal

3-8, RR Bridge, windy 5-10, 9 shrimp, 1st time in five years / got setup by 7pm. I must have lost the touch9 shrimp between 7 and 10:30. Nice to be on the water though. Spent the night and hit Cracker Barrel for pecan pancakes on the way home. Rod

3/9 8-11P, South of Riverbreeze 1 mile on east side, breezy from the North, 1 Quart of Large and Jumbos, Put in a little late. Anchored East side of the Channel about 1 mile South of the ramp. Also want to again thank the guy at the ramp that help helped us get the boat jump started. Rob

3/8 from dark till 10:30, just north of Lopez Fish Camp, breeze switching from north to south, two gallons of Large to Jumbo, Shrimp were running good as soon as it got dark . No wind or light wind from the north until about 9:30. As soon as the breeze started coming out of the south, the shrimp slowed down and grass started appearing. The few dozen shrimp we did pick up in the next hour were HUGE! Very enjoyable first trip of the season for us. Love your site jethro! nala gem (alan n meg)

Doug

3/8/03 8 - 9:30, riverbreeze, 1/2 gallon, Finally got setup around 8 pm which was a good 1-1/2 to 2 hours after sunset.  It died down when the weeds started coming around 9:30 pm.  We were able to get enough to make a dinner but not a massive amount, 1/2 gallon.  Caught one that was 7-1/2 inches long. I thought it was a mullet at first, wow.  Jethro, nice site!  How about adding the ability for people to attach digital pictures of their "3 gallon" catches? Shuga Scrimp

Very slow dipping till 11:00 Then the shrimp really turned on. the winds died down and that seemed to help. Med. to Large, very few jumbos. Pretty good night after I moved 6 times. 3-11 / 1900 - 0030, South of Riverbreeze, Nice night, light SE winds, 4 1/2 gallons, Slow at first but really turned on ~ 2230.  Dipped constantly  from 2230 - 0030. 3/12 8:30-2am,  RB, Strong SE Wind, 2.5 gallons, South of River Breeze. The frist two hours produced about a dozen. About 11:00 they started to pick up. Coming through good in twos-threes- and four at a time from 11:30 until we left. Did the best in about 9-10ft of water. I'm sure they will run late again tonight- DON'T GIVE UP EARLY!!! Shrimp Daddy (& momma)

3/12/03,  North of Riverbreeze, South wind dirty water, 3 quarts cleaned, North of riverbreeze from 2000 til 0230.  Started off real good then died.  A few here and there.  None at the turn of the tide.  Set up deep, shallow, and everything in between.  Ended up with three quarts cleaned mostly mediums to large.  Why 4 gallons the day before and almost nothing the day after.  We need pictures for proof.  REEFROMPER

3-13-03 6PM - 8:45 PM, River Breeze, calm, 1/2 gallon, Great night Thursday, had my 4yr old son and 8 yr old daughter. Our first time shrimping, enought for dinner, med and lrg, had a super time, perfect evening with children. Charles

03/13/03, Haulover Canal, Calm mostly, light N wind, 1 gallon, How depressing...I just knew it was going to be a great night for shrimping.  I was out there from 8:00 till 4:00 a.m. I only ended up with 1 gallon of mixed.  Did have a really great time chatting with the guy in the next boat, exchanging fishing/shrimping stories. Ray

3-14-03, Railroad Bridge, Clear skies then overcast with sprinkles, 3 Shrimp / 1 large  / 1 med / 1small, 2nd time out this year / still lok'n for the big run. I know! gotta go 10 times and hit once. Captain Rod

3/15/03 11:00p to 5:00a,  Riverbreeze, mid 60's North Wind 15-20, 4 Gallons, Left 72 deg and calm winds in Melbourne to find a stiif north wind, fog and mid 60 deg temps in Oakhill. Tide was about an hour behind due to wind and the shrimping was slow till about 2:30 am where we only barely covered the bottom of the bucket. Then the shrimp started running mad till the end of tide. Got about four gallons in two hours.  athe water was pretty dirty and the shrimp were running deep, not a good night to forget the box net. When the run got going good we almost lost the two younguns' a few times due to their eagerness. We were all beat at the end but at least we didnt get skunked. about 35% small, 50% mediums and quite a few large. Only about a 2 dozen jumbos. Dirty Howie

Going to pray to shrimp goddess tonite and try again Tuesday nite.
Sad shrimper-Susan

03/17 Dark till 0430, Haulover and LeFills, SW wind and comfortable temps, 5 gallons, After being rained out the night before, my friend Scott and his son Brian joined me for an evening of shrimping.  Arrived Haulover after dark and set up a shorts way back from the mouth of the river.  Light sw wind had a slow flow going, with a shrimp here and there.  As the wind picked up, so did the shrimp.  Looked real good as we were dipping a mix with quite a few big shrimp.  By 1045pm the action quit and we had a little over a gallon in the bucket.  Pulled the boat and headed to LeFills.  We slow picked till 0130 and when the tide turned the shrimp started running.  Went from 1 and 2 a dip, to 4 or 5 a dip.  Brian cranked in the front of the boat, as Scott and I traded turns in the back.  By 0430 the bucket was filled and we headed home.  Mostly mediums, with a fair number of large and jumbo. Clay

03/19/03, River Breeze, mostly chopy- south -south west wind, 3 gal, 2:00 AM till  6:00AM it was very slow for most of the morning, about 10 jumbo 30 large and rest small and medium.. lots of fun when the wind was still and you could see them deep. Maybe 6 floaters most of them over 3'especially the big and jumbo..it was fun even dipping my cap that was knocked off. Sure glad Lady Bowhunter's pole hit my hat and not my head as far  as the hat went north.  I was not dressed for a swim. Full moon no skinny dipping. Bowhunter

3/20/03   3:00 a.m to 6:00 a.m, LeFills, wind s 10 to 15 mostly choppy,  4, slow until about 4:30 a.m, when they started running. We were getting 4-6 a dip, for about 45 minutes, and then they slowed back down. buckshot

3/20/03 10pm till mid, just out of the boat dock by the pier, windy and rain, less tha 1/2, First chance the girlfriend has had the chance to go, so we braved it for a few. Anchored between the pier and the bridge. Gat about 3 doz couple jumbo 14 large and the rest med with a couple smalls Jafo

3/22/03 "0 DARK THIRTY, Lefills, mid 60's southeast breeze 8 to 10 mph, 5 gals, Put in at lefills about 1hr before dark.  More boats than last night however still no crowd to speak of.  After setting up 3 elderly norherners (New Jersy Plates on car) decided that the area about 20' in front of me would be the best spot for the evening. Now don't get me wrong everyone can go where they want but there were no other boats within 200yrds of mine until these yahoo's decided to move in.  Extremely rude, when asked what they were intending to do I was told that I was in their spot and every one would get their limit anyway.  This is the reason I stopped going to RiverZoo.  In the future I will bring my dive gear for plug removal of rude boaters.  Shrimp didn't run as fierce as last night but still got 5gals.  saw the most shrimp when the tide changed and everyone left.
Other than the "Geriatric Glue Crew" it was a great night on the water. Karl

Mar 22 / 7 - 10 pm, Oak Hill, still, 70 deg, 2 gallons, Launched at RB, got to Le Fils around 6:30 - couldn't believe all the boats!!  The ramp was a zoo but we lucked out when someone left us a parking spot three spaces from the ramp.  They turned on at dark & were pretty steady until we left.  Would have done better but brought the kids and they had a good time swiping at em.  First time launching at RB and it's a long slow idle down to OH, thanks to the manatee frenzy. Baldy

03/22/03, Lopez Park, wind died after sunset, clear and nice, 3 gallons, Plenty of shrimpers out last night (Sat), lined up all along the channel. Netted about 3 gallons in 3 hours, the wife got tired so we headed in. dippping 3 and 4 at a time for a while but they slowed later in the tide. Mostly mediums, only about 2 dozen jumbo's Good luck to all! shrimpinduo

3-22-03 7:30, Riverside, calm, 1.5 gallon, Way to many boats and in considerate boaters. Asked a couple if they would leave some gel coat on the boat while they motored by, think I'll start throwing my anchor into those that can't drive a boat and get rid of the problems.  Setup 1 mile south of RS, 1.5 gallons, dipped from 7:00 to 10:30, very sporatic, at one point dipped 5 in one net and thought it was going to pick up, I was wrong, just one and two here and there.  Wonder if nitting is fun?  Capt. Bill

3/23/03, lefills, upper 60's Light southwest breeze, 5gals. Put in at Lefills before dark there were at best 3 other boats out.  Started running right at dark.  Had our limit and boat on the trailer by 10pm.  Great night to be on the water.  Arms felt like lead after 3hrs of fratic dipping. Karl

3/23/03 6p to midnight, Riverbreeze, mid 60s, South Wind 5-10,  4 gallons, Braved the rain only to find small shrimp for the first 3 hours. Barely had a gallon when they started to run good the last two hours of the tide. Ended up with about 35% small, 45% med and the rest large. Only got about 18-20 jumbos. Murky water again and they ran pretty deep. Was a good night for those with perfect vision. Dirty Howie

03/24, The heroic Insane Shrimp Posse battled a strong north wind and a missing bottle opener,  yet still managed to take 173 enemy shrimp captive at Oak Hill last night. After ripping the enemy heads off this morning I think I will boil the corpses in Old Bay Seasoning and eat them for lunch. Screw the Geneva Convention.

03/24, Halover, Wind North 9mph, 5 gal. 8:30 till midnight ran pretty steady the first 3 hours slowed down around 11:00. Got 5 gals. The current was smoken shrimp were passing buy so fast had we caught them we would have had our limit much earlier. Great Night!! Michele

03/24/03, Haulover Canal, Wind N, 5 gallons, Guess you could actually say this should be posted on the 25th since I got there late, about 11:00 p.m. on the 24th and then dozed off. Netted most early in the a.m. the 25th.  Got my limit but about 75% were small-medium...what my wife calls linguini shrimp because she says that size goes best in sauces and gumbos.  Could sure use some jumbos. Ray

March 25 7:30-10:30, Hallover, 1/2 gal, quite a few boats for a tuesday night, shrimp werent runnin that great, had work the next day so took off early David

3/25, RB, wind north 5mph 64º air temp, 3.5 gallons, Arrived at 730 to shrimp running. I also found that I lost a net on the way over and kinda put a dent in our bag. We would have had our limit if we both had nets. Half were caught with the framenet. Water looked like coffee with cream but the shrimp would surface and made themselves visible. Jethro

3/25/  8:30 to midnight, Oak Hill, North wind light,  cloudy water, 5 gal, Nice night, set up started shrimping, ran steady till around midninght, no flood but constant. Only a few large the rest half medium and half small. Mel

3-25/8 till midnight, south of RB, ne @ 8, 5 gallons - limit, Hawkeye and I got out and set up by about 8.  Started catching small ones - got a little bigger later.  Mostly small and medium.  Hawkeye worked as his ass off as most of the shrmip were hitting his end of the boat.  Got about a third in the frame net - good clean but murky water - not much crap in the frame net.  Good night and I didn't fall in. Scott

03/25/02, Haulover, Calm mid 60's, 1 gallon, First let me thank Jethro for this page. I learned alot and last night I went on my first shrimpin trip. Arrived a Haulover ramp at 7:15. Setup on north side at west end with about 10 or 12 other boats. Had trouble with lights and ended up with only 1 underwater light working and two lanterns. Shrimp were running slow and we had less than a dozen at 11:00. All the other boats picked up and headed home but we stuck it out and as soon as they left things picked up. We ended up with about 1 gal but learned alot and next time will have the light situation worked out. I'll be back, Dave

03/26-27, RB, wind south 10-15mph, 69º air temp, 5 gallons, Got to the ramp at 830 and got to my spot and the shrimp were waiting but went real slow all night and took all night to uh cover the bottom of the bucket.... and the inside.

Didn't lose a net this night. Jethro

3/26/03 7:30p.m. Haulover Canal, wind Se@ 15mph, 70 deg. 5 gallons, We got to the canal at and set up about dark thirty. The current was really flying. About 7:30 they let loose lots jumbos. We had our limit by 9:00. Probably the fastest to 5 gallons ever. Mike

03/27/03, Haulover, 70F,W wind in storms, clocking to N, 3 gallons, After hearing the above post, we had to try Haulover.  We arrived about dusk and launched the boat dispite the threat of storms and strong winds.  Decided to setup near the bridge as the wind was creating too much chop on the water to see well.  About 1 hr after dark, the shrimp began to run strong.  Ran quite well in the middle of the channel for about 2 hrs when the wind started shifting to the North and the tide ebbed.  As more storms were approaching, we called it an early night with a little over half our limit.  Look forward to going back for more of the monsters. Tim

03/27/03  10 TILL 200, RIVERBREEZE  SOUTH, WINDY AND RAIN, 4.5 gallons, CLOUDS WERE LOOKING BAD, GOT SET UP ABOUT 9:00 NOTHING TILL AFTER THE TIDE CHANGED, RAINED PRETTY HARD FOR A WHILE NOT MANY BOATS IN THE WATER  WE JUST KINDA DIPPED A FEW HERE AND THERE TILL WE FINNALY CALLED IT QUITS ABOUT 2:00pm  FEW JUMBOS LOTS OF LARGE MOST MEDIUM AND SMALL...ALL EAT GOOD.... COLT

3/29, Haulover/Riverbreeze, perfect, 4.8 gallons, Set up in Haulover under bridge about 8PM. Got most of a whole pint of shrimp by midnite (not even a good net full). Packed up and launched at Riverbreeze about 12:20 AM Sunday just as tide changed. Just off the fishing pier, we got about 4.6 gallons before sun came up. Had about 40 JUMBOS, a quart or so extra large, a couple quarts large, rest med/sm. Perfect weather, clear water, good current for frame net. TC

3/29/03 early saturday morning 1 - 4a.m. Lopez, dark and foggy, one gallon, We were camping on the islands in the lagoon. Decided to brave the low visibility for some tasty shrimp. We saw shrimp where the main channel hits the lagoon and boats were dipping steady there. We thought we would do better at the lopez gauntlet. 10-24-03, New Smryna CausewaysWind @ 0-5 mph NE - 77 deg.  1/2 gallon, Cold Front passed through in the a.m. and so I figured to try some fishing & shrimping that night.  Started at Ponce Inlet trying for fish caught (2) "cats" on tail end of outgoing tide using live mullet.  Moved into river Southeasterly up Western Channel. No signs of fish, consequently, dropped shrimp lights to "see below."  minnows and small greenies.  Moved to northerly causeway and found samething. Finally, moved to Southerly causeway for last few hours and found shrimp. Small to Large, very sporatic.  Let my son and friend have fun, they missed a bunch but still managed 2-3 dozen med.-lrg. in about 1-1/2 hours.  Figured Oak Hill is starting to "heat up." Lino
