2006 Shrimping Reports
Well this must be the slowest shrimping season I have experienced. There are alot more reports but are posted in the forum.
1/1/06 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Rail Road Bridge, Clear with a breeze from the south, One gallon, Nice clear night with a breeze from the south. Stayed out at the RR Bridge from 7 PM to 12 AM caught about a gallon nice size. Water is still a little cloudy but you could still see a few feet down. David
01/01/06 Dark to midnigt, Titusville bridge, Cool, clear, slight breeze, 1 gallon, Weather was nice, shrimp made a pretty good run late. We should have had more but lost 5 out of 6 lights. About half were large the rest were medium and small.Others on bridge did much better than us. Tony and Ben
1-3-06 /6:00 - 10:30PM, RR Bridge, winds west to north west/temp at 56 deg. 3 3/4 gallons, Hit the RR bridge around 6pm with some friends down from the North east. as soon as we set up and turned on the lights, they began to run. The water was a little murky and visibility was poor below the surface, but the trout were every where and hungry forcing the shrimp to stay on top. The entire 4 hours gave us a good constant run of 4 to 5 shrimp a minute. They were mostly mediums to large with quite a few shrimp-zilla's to boot. We dipped a total of 13 trout as well battling for the shrimp. I don't think I've ever seen the trout so aggressive in such large numbers before!! When we left, they were still running about 2 or 3 every few minutes. Flats Brother
1/7/06, rr bridge, cold light winds 5-10 mph nw, 1.5 galllon, Set up south of rr bridge dipping was steady but 1 at a time. weather was cold but nice night left out around 2:30 Netted 154 with only with cotton not to bad. Sea ya on the H2O Ed the Red

1/4/06 dark til 10:38, Marker 75 Oak Hill, calm no wind.. 2 gallons, Started out a little slow, but we were able to get 2 gallons by the end of the evening. 1/9/06, 11:00-01:30, RB, Temp 57 to 52, wind light NE, 20%clouds, 0.2 Gallons Large, Water still cloudy but cleared a little at times -few shrimp visible, more below -hope the frame netters did better than I did dipping. Half dozen+ boats out. Got there late, don't know if I missed anything. Still a good night just to be on the water - listening to country music (Pink Floyd)(Shrimp Like CCR). Entertainment was provided by somebody that ran aground hard speeding toward the creek. Figured out not to be backlit by anchor light - they see you dipping. Moved around a little to find some near the surface - tried not to cut anyone off. bert

S10-15MPH at least, strong..High Fifties, Approx...3 Gals, OH, the wind was howling from the South and along with outgoing tide made for fast current, miss more than caught, gone before you could react...but best nite so far this season...better dipper, probably could of MAX....but glad for what we got..Others boaters seemed to have a good nite also...so they are there. Don

3/08 Sunset to 11pm, RR Bridge, SE 5mph, 2.5 gallons, I haven't been in a while so was excited to get out. Fairly steady from sundown until we left around 11pm. Would have stayed longer but work starts early (drat!) Current was pretty strong from the south most of the night. It seemed to lag a little around 9pm, but was picking up again before we left. Lot's of jellyfish, but the water looked pretty good. We were on the north side, closer to the shoreline than the channel. Think I saw Jethro there as well, closer to the channel. How'd ya do? jman
3/9 8PM till 1:30AM, Oak Hill - Riverbreeze, Strong S Wind good 15 Knots, low sixties, 3 Gallons, Just S of Riverbreeze, strong S. wind, water clarity was decent..shrimp came in spurts but steady, some of all sizes, still running when we left at 1:30, probably could of max if stayed longer but had a good night....second in a row...don
3/11/06 7pm - 12am, Eau Gallie Bridge, South wind, pretty breezy, Gallons? Just a few shrimp./ Went out about 4:30 to setup, first time out this year and needed something to go with the steak I was planning. They were pretty slow, but had fun and they were very tasty. Marty Swindle
3/25/06 11pm-4am, oakhill, cold north wind, 4 gallons. i've only been shrimp'n 3 times. saturday night there were only two other boats on the water shrimping. i thought for sure it was going to be a slow night, but as soon as the tide started to drop it was on!! it was in the 40's with a cold north wind, but after an hour or so i was to busy to really notice it. we only had 2 lights but it worked out pretty well. i'd say at least 50% of our catch were caught trying to sneek through the dark spot between the lights. it was alot of fun. i'm glad i braved the cold. dano
3-25-06, 10:30 til 02:00, Le Fils, wind NW at 10+ @42 deg. no moon, aprox 5 gal. March-25/26 was our annual Troop campout at Mosquito lagoon on the spoil islands. With the wind out of the north, cold and no moon, we figured shrimpin would be poor at best. Were we in for a surprise. On the way from the island, we noticed shrimp all around us, good sign. But when we got to Le Fils, there was only one other boat. Anchored about 10:30, tide didn't start north til about 11:30 and then they came and fairly steady. We took 5 boys in each boat, all first timers. Stopped shrimpin at 02:00, and not because the shrimp stopped but because the boys were tired and cold. Caught mostly medium, some large and a few jumbos. A good time was had by all. Shrimpin Scout

4/24 --4/25, Riverbreeze, clear, ssw winds, Temp.????A good one gal plus, Got to Riverbreeze early and set-up at 10:30 PM, waited for tide to turn around 11:45,as soon as it turn they came steady for about hour/hour & a Half and then they died down to a trickle...left around 3:20 AM...no mosquitoes, water was clean but visibility not that great, about 2-3 feet....all in all, a good nite for being so late in season....small to medium, not to many large..worht the trip to us....good luck..don
10/26, RB, being a newbie, and haveing a new boat to shrimp off of this year, my buddy and i went out last night. put in at river breeze, went south and ancored at the only dock with a strip light all the way down the side {la theas?}. the wind was strong out of the south. we were the only boat on the water, eccept for two commercial guys that showed up an hour or so after us. we only mannaged to cover the bottom of the bucket, but most were large. they were deep and the commercial guys with thier frame nets, did well. couldn't hear him to well, danb wind, but he did say that it was a pretty good night. didn't help us...no frame net. Dano
11/09/06, Went to River Breeze last Thursday night. Had a bunch of shrimp lights that we had repaired from two years ago and decided to test them out. Tide was running good, but the shrimp were not. Only caught a total of 24 shrimp and we used the frame net as well. Later! Jusadozenboys
11/10, RB, First time out this season...set-up about 7:30 PM until 10:30PM, total of 30 med. to small shrimp...set-up south of ramp at normal spot...water clarity was poor as usual...about the same as last year..personally I think the water clarity around RiverBreeze is geting worse by the year..quite a few boats on water but seem like no one was dipping that much. so whatever this is worth to someone...good luck...don
11/11, Went to Edgewater on Sat night to test the lights and equiptment... one shrimp w/ the frame and one squid with the dip... Current was decent and the visibility wasn't good but all in all a beautiful night on the water... looking forward to a great year... freespirit
